Peter has experience treating stress related to combat • being a first responder • grief and loss • neurodivergence • mood, parenting • intersectionality • academics • work • boredom • social media "thirst" • substance use • and performance.

 

Practice areas are applied assessment, self-identity, memory care, the nervous system, daily performance, medicinal practices, spirituality, skill-building, and connection - using first-hand experience.

Trauma-Focused CBT

TF-CBT, a top-down approach, may employ techniques such as mindfulness, narrative processing, exposure, or affective regulation.

Self-Regulation (SR)

SR uses a bottom-up approach to care, which may include breathwork, autogenic protocols, empowerment, and meditation.

EMDR (Horizontal Approach)

EMDR (EMD) is a neuro-informed protocol intended to address immediacy or activation, like triggers, night terrors, and distress.

Neuro-Informed Care (NIC)

Although NIC might encompass all of these things, it also includes calming the nervous system, and that could mean the senses.

Training & Consultation

One of Peter's passions in his counseling supervision role is to provide assuaging experiences through client care, training, consultation and retreats, His current focus is developing a nationally approved supervision training endorsing isomorphic practices in gender-affirming care. Continuing education units are included. Not only is this part of his private practice but also his dissertation.

Supervision

Peter has supervised students in coursework application, skills enhancement labs, a group leadership lab, and skills coaching plans at the university level. His supervision style includes neuro-informed, trauma-informed, and leadership-based approaches. Supervision formats utilize individual, triadic, and group in-person, telesupervision, and cybersupervision platforms. He enjoys working individually and in large groups to support supervision integration and inclusion.

Teaching

Peter is not only a counselor, but an educator at the university endorsing his dissertation. Peter has taught coursework in masters-level counseling supervision, medical and psychological aspects of disability, and foundational courses to becoming a clinical mental health counselor and school counselor (K-12). 

Counseling

Not only are trauma- and neuro-informed counseling approaches critical to meeting client needs, so does gender-affirming care. Peter is sensitive and understanding, engaging empathy and important curiosity to ensure client care is preferred and the driving force to his practice. He is trained to administer the ADOS-2 and other large-scale assessments. Group work consists of PEERS integration, neurodivergent teens, combat veterans, substance abuse treatment, family dynamics, men's issues, counseling leadership, and dissertation support.
